Rachel Liepman, DVM, MS
Diplomate of the American College of Internal Medicine (LAIM)
Equine Internal Medicine Specialist

Dr. Rachel Liepman is a dedicated and compassionate equine internal medicine specialist with a deep-rooted love for horses that began long before her veterinary career. Growing up on the East Coast and Midwest, Dr. Liepman spent her childhood immersed in the equestrian world, riding as a junior hunter-jumper rider in competitions across the Midwest and Florida. Her early exposure to the sport fostered a lifelong passion for horses, and she continues to be an avid equestrian, riding her jumper mare regularly today.

Dr. Liepman’s journey into veterinary medicine was shaped by her unwavering commitment to helping horses live their healthiest and happiest lives. She attended Michigan State University for veterinary school, where she developed a particular interest in equine internal medicine—a field that would become her lifelong passion. After completing an equine internship at BW Furlong and Associates in New Jersey, she further honed her expertise with advanced training at The Ohio State University, earning a master’s degree and certification with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.

Her extensive training and years of experience has made Dr. Liepman a trusted expert in equine health, particularly in diagnosing and treating complex conditions such as respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, neurological, and endocrine disorders, as well as neonatal care for foals. She is particularly adept at evaluating horses for poor performance, weight loss, and systemic issues, helping to restore and maintain optimal health in her patients.

Beyond her technical expertise, what truly sets Dr. Liepman apart is her compassionate, patient-centered approach to care. Her philosophy, "Where Compassion Meets Quality," reflects her belief that exceptional veterinary care combines both skill and empathy. She understands the bond between horse and owner, and she treats each horse as if it were her own, carefully listening to concerns and working collaboratively to create individualized treatment plans. Whether it's helping an equine athlete perform at their best or providing critical care for a foal, Dr. Liepman is dedicated to ensuring that each horse receives the highest level of care with a personal touch.

One of Dr. Liepman's other passions is educating and supporting the next generation of veterinarians. She has mentored multiple young veterinarians during her career and continues to do so through programs such as Decade One and Starting Gate, programs that support early career veterinarians. She also has served on AAEP committees dedicated to improving equine veterinary internship and training programs and those to support the early career veterinarian in the transition into equine practice. Her efforts are numerous to try to improve retention of equine practitioners in the field for generations to come.

Dr. Liepman’s combination of advanced knowledge, a deep love for horses, and a compassionate, holistic approach to veterinary medicine makes her a trusted and valued partner in the health and well-being of your equine companions.
